Departing Trebes |
We spent a
good part of the day making our way to Carcassonne, passing under bridges and
transiting 4 single locks and 1 double lock.
Each day seemed to get hotter;
Southern France was moving into a record-breaking heat wave. We kept the Bimini
(canvass cover) top up as much as possible for shade; but when coming to a
bridge, it must be taken down until the boat has passed underneath.
Transiting the locks
was now routine. Gliding past the countryside and the grand old plane trees
continued to fascinate us.

Arriving at Carcassonne |
Carcassonne, the
day’s destination, is actually two towns; the old citadel that encircles a town
with its double walled fortification; and the town located in the valley below
the citadel.

We would be visiting both towns, and were also scheduled for a
tour and dinner at a local winery estate. Carcassonne proved to be one of the
highlights of our trip.
