Trebes, a blend of Modern and Old

We spent the night in Trebes and enjoyed this unique town that offers a nice blend of new and old.

A lovely promenade, lined with cafes, fronts the canal. Trebes is a Le Boat base with water and electrical hookups; shops, a drug store, and a grocery are nearby for provisioning.

Le Boat Base in Trebes

Trebes is located on an important river crossing, and was originally known as Tresmals. In the year 1110, residents petitioned for the name to be changed to Trebes (Three Goods) since the name Tresmals (Three Fords) could also be interpreted as “Three Evils.”

Old Town Trebes

In October of 2018, Trebes and other local villages were flooded after intense rain; unfortunately, a dozen people were killed. Trebes was also the site of a terrorist attack in March that same year.
